Sulcata Tortoise Drawing
For this post, I drew a picture from a photo that I took of our pet tortoise Gamera. Gamera is a young Sulcata tortoise who will probably grow to be over 100 lbs. For my drawing, I started with an outline based on the picture, starting with the shape and then adding details.

Colored Pencil Lychee Drawing
When drawing objects that I am not completely familiar with, I find it easiest to use a reference photo. In this case, I used a photo of lychee which had leaves and more fruit in the picture, but since I didn't want to draw that much or to get distracted by things that weren't going to be in the picture, I cropped them out.

Cat Drawing
This is my take on a picture I found here. Since I did not want to make one that was exactly the same as the one I found on the internet, I decided to use the concept to draw my own cat (picture below).

Gecko Drawing
This is a picture I drew of a gecko (can't remember what kind). I do not have a tutorial for it, but this is another example of pictures for notebook covers (or binder covers). Remember that if you are using a picture for a notebook or binder cover, you will probably need to cut the longer ends shorter. (and sorry that the picture came out a little dark and blurry).

Drawing With Effects #2
If you remember the previous post on Drawing With Effects all you have to do is make some random scribbles and splotches then add a bunch of effects to your picture.

Running Horse Drawing
For this post, I will explain how I did some of the picture. Since I have already done a horse head tutorial, you should know how to make it. For the rest of the horse, I will try to get a tutorial sooner or later. For the sky, I used chalk pastels (I probably could have used something else, but I was seeing how they worked). To make the sunset, you have to add different layers of color. For example, red, orange, yellow, pink. Or if you wanted a more orange sunset, you could have just done different shades of orange. For the grass, I picked out multiple shades or green and some oranges. After making little lines of each color (yes this will take a while), I colored the entire grass area with lime green (to get rid of white spots).

Drawing With Effects
If you can't decide what to draw, but you want to draw something. You might have made something like these before. They are easy to do and make good backgrounds for things like computer backgrounds or blog backgrounds. To make one, all you have to do is make a bunch of scribbles, and use your drawing programs effects (if you only have MS paint, you can always just do scribbles). The first picture that I made (to the left), could look like a tunnel with different layers.
Not sure what this one looks like (maybe something with scales?)
And this one has more of a comic book look.

Shading
Shading adds extra dimension to almost any picture. To see the difference, I have a picture of an alligator that I drew before and after shading.
This is my first one, I did a bit of shading, but not much.
This is my second picture. As you can see I did more shading (and my room was a bit darker when I took this picture.

Notebook Covers
Maybe you need a notebook, but the only one you have has an annoying cover. Instead of going and buying a new one, why not make it a new cover? It is easy and cheaper (it might be best to make the paper the size of the front of the notebook before drawing, since it might not fit right). You can also make a back for it (I'm working on it now). You could also make a bunch of smaller pictures and glue them all too the front instead.

Wolf Picture
Right now, I am working on two pictures for an art contest at the airport I go to (I can only enter one picture, but I am making two to decide between). My first picture is of a wolf (almost done) and I will also be making an alligator. If you have any ideas for what colors to use for my wolf picture background, let me know.

Puppy
For today, I drew (another) dog. For those who are wondering why I did not do a tutorial. I had all the pictures ready for the tutorial, but I accidentally deleted most of them. When drawing dogs, you can pretty much give them any design and having it look right.

Shadowing
Last time at art class, we learned how to shadow things. On one side (the one with the shadow), you want it to be a dark as possible. On the other side, you want it to have some light on it. If you are doing something where you can see the inside of it, you want to have the dark side on the opposite side than the shadow on the outside. We also learned about making little Xs to make it look like we didn't just fill it in. You also want the shadow to be darkest in the center.

Wolves
The wolf pups in this picture are a good example of what NOT to do when drawing wolves. Pup #1, when drawing a wolf or any other animal, you do not want to fill in the eye ALL black. If you are to accidentally fill in the eye more black then you wanted fill it in most of the way but leave a white dot for light reflection. Pup #2, when drawing wolves or dogs (besides pugs, bulldogs, etc) you DO NOT want a super short snout. It leaves the wolf or dog looking more like a pug then a wolf. And now for pup #3. This is not as bad as the others, but the last thing that you do not want to do is make a larger wolf or dog fat. This is optional though. If you are the kind of person that likes fat wolves and dogs, you can
completely ignore this tip.

American Bobtail Cat
Once again, I am sorry for not making a tutorial. An American Bobtail can come in almost any color (reasonable for a cat not blue, green, purple). The distinct thing about the American Bobtail is the bobbed tail. I will try to get more tutorials out soon.

Kitten In Presents
This is another picture that I did of Sushi. I based it off of a picture, when she was a kitten. It did not turn out a lot like the picture since I made a few changes. I did not include the tree or all the presents. It was easier to make since I did not include the tree or all of the presents. For Sushi I did the fade circles and a couple of lines. For the presents I did squares and colored them in. And the blanket was basically just a curved line with a bunched up area on one side.

Forest Scene
This is a forest scene that I made. It includes a fawn, a squirrel, and a lynx. Some things that you can do (if you are also making a forest scene) that I did not do are, I could have added more trees, more limbs on the tree, a couple smaller animals such as mice, rabbit, ect. Perhaps I will make a tutorial for different scenes some other time (once I have more tutorials for single animals).
