Star Fruit/Carambola Colored Pencil Drawing

For this post, I remembered to take a picture of my outline (unlike my lychee post).  I found that the best way to get the texture of the inside of the fruit was to make a bunch of small lines then lightly erase them (lightly, meaning that you are only partially erasing for a slightly uneven darkness throughout).

When drawing objects that I am not completely familiar with, I find it easiest to use a reference photo. In this case, I used a photo of lychee which had leaves and more fruit in the picture, but since I didn't want to draw that much or to get distracted by things that weren't going to be in the picture, I cropped them out.                        

Cat Drawing

This is my take on a picture I found here. Since I did not want to make one that was exactly the same as the one I found on the internet, I decided to use the concept to draw my own cat (picture below).

Gecko Drawing

This is a picture I drew of a gecko (can't remember what kind). I do not have a tutorial for it, but this is another example of pictures for notebook covers (or binder covers). Remember that if you are using a picture for a notebook or binder cover, you will probably need to cut the longer ends shorter. (and sorry that the picture came out a little dark and blurry).

Overlays

Making overlays is simple and effective. You start with a black paper (meaning virtual paper not real paper). Then use the air brush to add different colors in random designs.

Drawing With Effects #2

 If you remember the previous post on Drawing With Effects all you have to do is make some random scribbles and splotches then add a bunch of effects to your picture.

Split Pictures

 You start with your blank piece of paper (these are SO much easier on a computer or device. I made mine on my iPod with Art Studio).

 If you are drawing this on a computer, turn on symmetry (if your drawing program has it).

Draw a curve about 3/4 to the top of the paper.

 Then draw the curves for the ears.

 Now, draw second curves going from the tip of the other curve  down.

 Then make some more curves going into the head.

 Now add the muzzle.

 And the eyes.

 Then add the nose.

 Fill in the eyes (they can be the same color if you like).

 Then fill in the nose.

 Now make black circles inside the eyes.

 And add white dots for reflection.

 If you are going to fill each side in a separate color, make a line going straight down the middle.

 Add desired markings.

 Then color in (you may have to crop your picture if you made the head too high).

 Now add the neck.

 Remove symmetry (unless you want it to have the same markings on each side of the neck).

Color in.

 Add background color.

And use the smear tool to blend both sides. And now you're done!
